New hire ruins 9 months of employee work, management sign off on her actions: 'I can't even blame her'

It's normal to make mistakes when you're new on the job. It isn't normal for it to be your manager who helps to create them.

We all mess up at work now and again, and a time when we are particularly susceptible to it is when we start a new job. Learning the ropes is rarely a straightforward process, and mistakes are possible even when we are asking the right questions and trying our hardest.

Often, our ability to get things right is at least partially dependent on the kind of management we receive. To be good at their job, a boss needs to know the right way to manage people to get the best out of them. If they don't do that, they cannot expect to have the results that they are probably hoping for.

What's more is that in many working teams, everybody is going to feel it in some way if somebody else does something wrong. This makes it even more important that the proper guidance is in place. Crisis management is a necessary part of any workplace, but there should be as many guardrails as possible to ensure it is not something that has to be done on a regular basis.

In this story, a graphic designer was upset to find that her new colleague had managed to undo nine months of hard work. Their company had gone through a downsizing recently, and the remaining employees were struggling to keep up with the workload that was placed on them as a result.
This new hire had been asked to move some client files from one cloud drive to another, and she managed to put them into complete disarray in the process. She had been following the orders of the boss, whom the more experienced employee felt was not giving the necessary support.
